Yohji Yamamoto +Noir SS20 Abstract Print Dress

Yohji Yamamoto clothing is renowned for its use of washed, unironed fabrics, relaxed silhouettes, and a color palette dominated by dark hues. The blend of Japanese and Western influences, as well as the fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, embodies a Postmodernist bricolage aesthetic. After graduating in law from Keio University in Tokyo in 1966, Yamamoto pursued his passion for fashion by studying at the Fashion Culture Institute for three years. In 1969, he was awarded the Endo Design Prize, which led him to Paris where he honed his craft in the couture industry for two years. Upon his return to Tokyo, he founded Y's ready-to-wear for women in 1972, followed by the launch of Y's ready-to-wear for men in 1977. The debut of his eponymous Yohji Yamamoto collection in Paris in 1981 marked a significant milestone, with the introduction of the Yohji Yamamoto pour Homme collection following in 1984. Yohji Yamamoto+Noir made its debut in 1995, featuring predominantly black garments with vibrant accents, staying true to its noir-inspired name.
